Old WEST End (1935?-1976): Downtown Sully, Jasper County

DOT records show that the westernmost part of 225 extended south into downtown Sully - but sometime after the end was fixed (no later than 1942), Sully renamed its north-south streets to numerical avenues. The end was Fourth Street at Main Street, then to Park Street, then north, then out of town. But now there is no Main or Park in Sully. I will guess/assume that it ended somewhere in the vicinity of the city park. I took pictures around downtown in my visit to Sully, but not of any intersections, so here's a shot of the Jasper County Freedom Rock. (5/19/15)

Highway 225 was the last of three sequential numbers given to Jasper County as spurs in 1931. In the next 70 years, 223 was extended and then decommissioned, 224 was extended, and 225 remained the only highway ending at IA 146 (excluding 102's shared east end with it). In 2003, 225 was the only spur that crossed county lines - IA 410 ran right up to one, and spurs entirely on the line like 419 didn't count since they technically didn't "cross".

The end of IA 225 was set at 7th Avenue on November 30, 1976, which is where it was until decommissioning in 2003.

The town of Searsboro (pop. 155) is just to the left - but this sign is within city limits.

The pickup is on 146. The stop sign with its back to us is the access road to/from northbound 146. The car is going onto southbound 146.

Traffic for 225 continues east while 146 changes from southbound to eastbound, picking up 225's road. (SB traffic stops, as indicated by the sign with its back to us.)

The "former" sign here is much nicer than the one in Jasper County. The 146 shield two photos down is by the blue house.

The signs at left are the same ones three pictures up.

A "Begin" sign on a county road? That's new. (5/31/05)

Not everyone got the memo about the change. This is half a mile west of the end. (5/31/05)
